Edenthorn at Planet Rockstock 2021

One of the standout artists on the second stage at Planet Rockstock 2019, Edenthorn make the rightful and effortless leap up to The Main Stage this year. A mighty fine and well-oiled live act, Edenthorn impress early on with the nostalgic ‘1993’ – an anthemic track that yearns for “simple times” and musically nods heavily towards the sounds of the decade from whence it takes its name.

Elsewhere, ‘The Noise In My Head’ is positively electrifying, while a thunderous ‘Heart’s Still Beating’ is propelled by gut-shaking bass lines from Faiba Gabrielle. Constantly bigging up his native Northeast, Kyle Tague is a vivacious frontman who relentlessly hops around the stage and jokes with the audience at one point “Are you all well? I bloody hope so!” The all-too-short set climaxes in style with a muscular rendition ‘Power’ leaving the Planet Rock faithful wanting more

MPM SINGLE REVIEW ‘THE NOISE IN MY HEAD’

Single Review : Edenthorn – ‘The Noise In My Head’

2 min read

e In My Head’

Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

This North Eastern quartet are seemingly intent on conquering the hearts and minds of all those who like their guitars loud and their songs anthemic.

The latest in a long line of skyscraping blasts to the stratosphere, ‘The Noise In My Head’ is a melodically jammed wonder that brings their muscular hard rock into irresistible orbit around your consciousness and into your brain.

Even though there are definite echoes of bands like Alter Bridge here and whilst comparisons can be used as a handy reference point, there is a definite spin on what Edenthorn bring to the table, the grittily stylised lead vocals of Kyle Michael Tague backed by the sweeter g of bass player Faiba Gabrielle, their two voices bringing fire and honey in perfect balance.

Dylan Gardner meanwhile, peels out the arena sized riffs as Mark Tague lays down some city block flattening beats, all four members clicking together in a groove that has all the heaviness, power and hooks you could ever wish for.

Seldom has a song been so aptly titled as, once heard, this is going to be the noise inside your head for many days to come. Something as addictive as this should come with a government warning.

AT THE BARRIER REVIEW ‘THE NOISE IN MY HEAD’

Edenthorn – The Noise In My Head: New Single

Edenthorn continue their run of classic and classy rock singles as The Noise In My Head gears up for release on 18th June 2021.

edenthorn

Following on from the mighty swagger of the 1993 single (our feature) the band who have an aptitude for tunes with attitude post their latest offering. By now, you may have a rough idea of what to expect. We’re promised a punchy new tune that “everybody should be listening to at FULL volume to drown out the NOISE and escape into some of the best new music at the moment.”

To nick a phrase or two from the lyric, life must go on, and despite the war outside the door, what better soundtrack to grant us something uplifting and drown out the fear and dread. Love that guitar sound that shifts from foot pedal frenzies that bookend the track to sustained and dirty clumps and of course a power-picking riff. The complaint that so much might be wrong gets countered with a tremendous chunk of sleazy rock. Along with the brilliant 1993, things are stirring in the Edenthorn camp. The 18th June will see all revealed and we can’t wait to see what they come up with next.

Order the single on Bandcamp

Meanwhile – for anyone who’s been paying attention to the At The Barrier coverage of Edenthorn, will be intrigued to hear that bassist Faiba, uses a pick on this track. Wonder what the heck we’re talking about? Read Faiba’s Ironing It Out #1 article here.

New Album Coming in 2021

Singles “A Matter Of Opinion” and “1993” received playlisting on national radio

It’s been a few months since the Geordie foursome released their last single “1993” but it’s been well worth the wait. With one of the most bad-ass, attitude – driven tracks to come out of Newcastle at the moment, Edenthorn take no prisoners when it comes to writing solid, chart-worthy rock tracks.

Recorded and mixed at the home of guitarist Dylan Gardner during the Covid-19 pandemic, “The Noise In My Head (2021)” is fresh, fierce, honest and punchy in nature and lyrically represents the feelings of many during the crazy time we’re living in right now. This song is exactly what everybody should be listening to – at FULL VOLUME – to drown out the NOISE and escape into some of the best new music at the moment.

“It is a re-recording of an old song from our 2018 album “Exist”. We were never happy with the old track and always felt like it was never fully finished so, we breathed some new life into it and we’re very happy with the result” explains vocalist Kyle Tague.

1993 IS NOMINATED ON CLASSIC ROCK ‘TRACKS OF THE WEEK’

Tracks of the Week: new music from Foo Fighters, Neil Young and more

Tracks of the Week
As Muse once so wisely said: it’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me, and I’m feeling good, yessiree-bob.

As 2020 is consigned to history’s great wheelie bin of despair and 2021 clatters into view, we can only hope that this year is better than last. For while the rock didn’t stop over the last dozen months, there were occasions when it felt somewhat diminished. Here’s hoping the next 12 bring less gloom and a gradual return to something resembling normality.

We did end 2020 on a high, though, with Lovesick Radio’s timely Nothing Left To Lose being voted our final Track of the Week of the year. They were swiftly followed by Angeline and Prowess, so congratulations to them too. And below you’ll find our first selection of this year. We hope you enjoy them.

Foo Fighters – No Son Of Mine

Bursting into 2021 like a hare being chased through a cornfield by a hungry fox, Foo Fighters’ No Son Of Mine is the kind of thing The Foos release to provide reassurance to anyone concerned that their next album might be disco, or polka, or some new genre like proto-whimsy (we just made that up). So of course it rocks, like a truck with new suspension. Like a rocking horse. Like rocking chair. But one made out of steel. With daggers. And a bullet belt. And a pint of fuck-you held proudly aloft.

Brothers In Exile – Last Orders

We’ve featured Welsh rockers Sonny Jim before in these very pages before, and now the band’s guitarist Lloyd Jenkins has hooked up with Stu Calder – a man he describes as “the Lenny Kravitz of Cheltenham” – to form Brothers In Exile. They recorded the boisterous Last Orders together in a brief window between the 26th and 27th lockdowns, and very good it is too, with a pumping, Wildhearts-esque riff backing a pumping, Wildhearts-esque verse and a pumping, Wildhearts-esque chorus. More fun than a clown car driven at speed into a bouncy castle.

The Quins – Wild Ones

The Quins are from Boston (Massachusetts, not Lincolnshire), and promise to “resurrect Classic Rock back from the vinyl cemetery to modern day iPod libraries”. We’d normally be a bit sniffy about such overt displays of self-proclaimed genius, but Wild Ones is so good we won’t (it rocks, and it funks, and it power-pops). And the sinister, narcotic-drenched video is even better. Since this was released a fortnight ago they’ve already released another clip – for the even spookier Sit And Wine – and we’ll calculate that they’ll probably release somewhere north of 170 singles this year if they carry on at the same rate. We look forward to them all.

Degreed – The World We Knew

This recommendation came from Classic Rock‘s very own Dave Ling, who knows melodic rock when he sees it, and this is very melodic. Degreed (they actually spell it with a lower case ‘d’, the fools, but we like to ignore such affectations) are from Sweden, where they also know a thing or two about melodic rock. And so when the chorus to The World We Knew (a song about last year, history fans) arrives, you know what happens: it soars, like a kestrel borne aloft on gossamer wings. Or like Sears Tower in Chicago. Or like something else that soars.

Edenthorn – 1993

Do you remember what you were doing 28 years ago? We certainly do, for we were listening to Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins. So were Edenthorn, judging by the nostalgia-fest that is new single 1993, and they probably weren’t even alive back thenWith a riff that may or may not have been influenced by another bunch of 1993 graduates, Buffalo Tom, it also references the films of the day: Groundhog Day, Sleepless In Seattle, and so on. “It was a simple time, with simple things,” they sing, “it was 1993.” This single would have fit right in, and we’re delighted that someone’s finally writing songs about a year that isn’t 2020.

Sainted Sinners – Stone Cold Sober

If you ever wonder, as we do, what current Tygers Of Pan Tang singer Jack Meille does in his spare time, you’ll be delighted to learn that we have an answer: he’s in The Sainted Sinners, and they’ve just released a new song entitled Stone Cold Sober. They tell us it’s about “the pub scene how it has been until this year and how we have to deal with it in recent times,” so we’re back to 2020 again, but it’s rescued by being a classy, lively rocker with a chorus that’ll bounce around your skull for days and a video featuring bassist Rico Bowen naked in the shower. Happy New Year everyone!

Neil Young – Goodbye Christians On The Shore

If Neil Young has proved anything with his ongoing Archive series, it’s that when he was on form he was so prolific his offcuts were better than most artists’ choice cuts. Hell, sometimes they were better than his own. And so it proves with Goodbye Christians On The Shore, recorded with the Stray Gators just before the Time Fades Away tour. It’s a gorgeous, lilting waltz with all the Young-isms present and correct: that nasal voice, that plaintive harmonica, that gift for melody that’s simultaneously melancholy and uplifting. Lovely.

Starbenders – Holy Mother

One of the bands of last year as far as we’re concerned, Atlanta glam kittens Starbenders spent most of 2020 releasing singles at a rate that would terrify an epidemiologist. They ended the year going looking back, filming a live version of Holy Mother – one of the highlights their terrific Love Potions album – and one of the songs that got the ball rolling back in 2019. And while the album benefitted from months of studio spit and polish, Holy Mother is clear proof that the band can absolutely cut it on stage. They’re even added a new, slow section at the end, in which lead Starbender Kimi Shelter does her best Patti Smith impression. If there’s any justice in this world, 2021 will be their year, just as 2020 should have been.

METAL EXPRESS RADIO: DOUBLE REVIEW

EDENTHORN – Matter of Opinion / 1993

DECEMBER 24TH 2020, MICK BURGESS

It’s been a couple of years since Durham Rockers, Edenthorn’s last album Exist, an album that showed great maturity and promise beyond their years.

With Covid-19 scuppering just about everyone’s plans, dreams and hopes Edenthorn haven’t let their suddenly acquired free time go to waste.

Currently ensconced in the studio working on their next album. Edenthorn have decided to release a couple of teasers to keep the pot bubbling.

“Matter of Opinion” is a moody, up-tempo, driving Rocker strong on melody and heavy on power with a guitar riff that evokes The Cult’s “She Sells Sanctuary” with a strong vocal from Kyle Tague. The mid-section breakdown with its tribal drumming and grinding riff really adds a fruity twist to the song.

“1993” is altogether more commercial but in a good way. A bright, sparkly riff sees Edenthorn looking back on those simple times of the early ’90s while a fiery solo from Dylan Gardner takes it up a notch or two while the backing vocals of Faiba Gardner add an impressive sheen to the song.

This is impressive stuff and bodes well for the forthcoming album which should see Edenthorn take a giant leap onward and upward.

WHY I LOVE: EDENTHORN ON PINK FLOYD

Why I Love: Edenthorn on Pink Floyd

From Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Edenthorn formed back in 2013. So far, two albums, The Maze (2015) and 2018’s ‘Exist’ along with a commitment to live performance, have cemented a reputation as an up and coming outfit. Place them under ‘ones to watch’. Not to be thwarted by any global pandemic, the back end of 2020 has seen them release two singles: A Matter Of Opinion and the excellent 1993 along with the promise of a new album in 2021. Meanwhile, while their star is in the ascendency, Faiba Gabrielle who plays bass with the band, joins us at the barrier to write about why she loves Pink Floyd.

Anybody that really knows me well, knows that I absolutely adore Pink Floyd. My parents were big influences on this though. Pink Floyd’s music was the soundtrack of my childhood. Dark Side Of The Moon was introduced to me at just 6 months old and according to my parents, was the only album that stopped me from whinging… Fast forward 29 years later and it still has the same effect… HA!

I remember writing a dissertation with A Momentary Lapse Of Reason blasting in my headphones. It was that loud that even my dad (who I may say didn’t have the best of hearing) told me to turn it down because he couldn’t concentrate on his crossword! Come to think of it this is probably why I also don’t have the best hearing…whoops!?There is something about their music that just draws me in, in a totally different way to any other song or band I listen to. This may sound odd but the music and especially the guitar solos aren’t just music and solos to me, they speak and tell a story.

To me, everything about their music just fits into place and blends perfectly. The tone of Gilmour’s guitar just touches somewhere deep in my soul and I feel – as clichéd as this may sound – that the music is speaking to me. I think this is what makes Pink Floyd such a Marmite-like band. You have to be able to let go and just get lost in the music to really understand what they are trying to say. Obviously, I never got to see them live but their recorded concerts were also played on repeat in our household when I was growing up. The stage shows, the lights, the musicians, the giant pig, the TV playing behind them, the music, the backing singers.

As a child, I wanted to be one of those backing singers so bad. In primary school, we had a show and tell once a month and I took a TAPE (wow) of Great Gig In The Sky in and attempted to sing/wail along. Safe to say there is no video evidence of this (thank god). When I began playing bass at around 15 years old, Run Like Hell was one of the first songs I learned. I then, along with my younger sister (who played the drums) and Dylan my brother (guitarist in Edenthorn) formed a band and we practiced every single day in our living room. The neighbours must have LOVED us. Along with all sorts of other songs, we learnt the whole of Dark Side Of The Moon from start to finish. Us And Them was always a favourite of mine to play and sing.

I definitely feel that it was Pink Floyd’s music that inspired me to pick up the bass. As well as the guitar, I always found myself humming along to the bass lines. Sorrow is so simple but drives the whole song along and gets stuck in my head for days on end. Same with Another Brick In The Wall, Pt 2. That is a bassline I wished I had written. It is one of the grooviest, rhythmic yet simple bass lines ever! I think the bass is quite an overlooked instrument in any band, but to me, the bassline can totally transform a song from being boring to memorable. You don’t have to be riffing all over the place either, some of the simplest basslines are in some of the most popular songs.

Our thanks to Faiba for joining us and sharing her passion for The Floyd (and particularly for Sorrow…)

‘1993’ IS RUSH ON ROCKS RED HOT TRACK OF THE WEEK

Edenthorn backstory

Hailing from the North East of England, fast-evolving hard rockers Edenthorn burst onto the scene off the back of bullish debut The Maze.

Three years after that 2015 statement of intent the band returned with new long player Exist — featuring the earworm of a lead single Heart’s Still Beating.

Support from Kerrang! Radio and Planet Rock Radio showcased the band’s talents to a wider audience and Edenthorn swiftly became staples of the UK’s diverse NWOCR live scene.

A slew of 2019 festival appearances reinforced the quartet’s reputation for delivering no-holds-barred, balls-to-the-wall shows.

Earlier this year Edenthorn bagged the runners-up spot in the Best New Band category at Planet Rock’s The Rocks Awards.

And previous single A Matter Of Opinion was voted Classic Rock Magazine’s Track Of The Week.

Completed during last month’s second lockdown, 1993 represents another giant leap forward for a band on the rise.

In lead singer Kyle Tague’s own words:

“This track isn’t a dedication to 1993

“It is more about looking back at simpler times.

“It just happened that 1993 sounded good when I sang it and a lot of cool stuff happened in that year!

“Lyrically it’s one of the quickest and easiest songs I’ve ever written.”

The verdict on 1993

Don’t be fooled by the misleading title — this is modern rock with real bite.

And as a postscript to 2020 it hits a prescient mark as Kyle Tague talks of ‘a simple time with simple things’.

Edenthorn have come a long way in seven years but 1993 offers further evidence that this is a band capable of going much, much further.

Dylan Gardner’s nimble fretwork dovetails perfectly with Tague’s persuasive tone.

And the rhythm section of Faiba Gardner (bass) and Mark Tague (drums) drives a gig-ready anthem screaming to be unleashed live.

That time will come.

Until then Christmas has come early for fans of Edenthorn’s addictive hard rock fusion.

What’s next for Edenthorn

Slots at a raft of summer festivals have been secured including a main stage berth at Planet Rockstock.

And spring’s rescheduled support slot with Those Damn Crowes is one to look out for.

The band has promised plenty more new music in 2021 following a productive period of songwriting.

SINGLE REVIEW: EDENTHORN 1993 @MOSHVILLETIMES

Single Review: Edenthorn – “1993”

Edenthorn are a relatively new one on us (we’ve featured them in passing in some news articles in the past) despite coming from my native Newcastle. On the strength of “1993”, I’m going to address that and will be eyeing up the inbox for their new album which is due next year.

“1993” is a rose-tinted retrospective to the heady days of yesteryear (and dinosaurs) told in a bluesy-rock way by a band who really know how to put a damn good song together. The strength of “1993” is in its simplicity and the fact that anyone around thirty years ago can relate to the times described in the lyrics. As they state, “It was a simple time, with simple things” – and looking back, it was. Well, for me anyway – I’d pretty much just started at uni!

If you like what we do, consider joining us on Patreon for as little as £1 per month!

This is the perfect piece of chart-fodder for a rock band. It’s catchy, you can sing along to it, it makes you think… More, it makes you feel.

Explains vocalist Kyle Tague:

This track isn’t a dedication to 1993. It is more about looking back at simpler times… it just happened that 1993 sounded good when sang and a lot of cool stuff happened in that year! Lyrically it’s one of the quickest and easiest songs I’ve ever written.

Thing is, I’m looking at their photo and they all look like they were barely ten years old in 1993 which makes an old fart like me slightly jealous. Not jealous enough to fail to recognise a class act when I see one, though. Check out the lyric video below and, as ever, you can stream/purchase the track from all the usual online sources.

FFO: EDENTHORN – 1993 | NARC MAGAZINE |

Newcastle quartet Edenthorn follow up their previous release (and Classic Rock Magazine’s track of the week) with their latest single 1993. Completed during the second lockdown and with a punchy, yet melodic sound, it’s a track that harks back to much simpler times. That said, looking to the future, the band are doing alright and are in process of preparing new releases, confirming slots at Dementia Aware Fest and Planet Rockstock 2021, as well as premiering a special acoustic performance of 1993 from their YouTube Channel (subscribe here).

Here, the band try to capture the essence of their new single using three songs…

Black Magic Woman – Santana
We fancied having a play around with some different types of sounds and feels on this record and Black Magic Woman by Santana definitely inspired this. When we first began writing this song we wanted to stray away from the usual intro/verse/chorus/verse 2/chorus structure and do something a little different. Dylan added a couple of solos in places you wouldn’t normally expect a solo to be as well as some percussion and organ to bring some flavour into the mix!

Hunger Strike – Temple Of The Dog
We love the vibe and feel of this track and obviously, with our new single being named ‘1993’ it was only right that we’d use a 90’s reference. We love the dynamics of this track, the way it starts off with solo guitar and vocal, then just builds and builds and takes you on an epic 4 – minute journey. This is definitely something we aimed to achieve with our latest release.

Hotel California – Eagles
As with Hotel California, 1993 has a story based, reminiscent type feel and we wanted the listener to relate to the song whether they were born in 1993 or not. The song isn’t a dedication to the year, it is more about looking back at simpler times but it’s written in a story-like, narrative manner with references to cool things from that time. The Eagles have a way with lyrics in that they are relatable, universal and easy to listen to. This is certainly something we geared toward when putting this track together.

SINGLE REVIEW: EDENTHORN 1993 @ATTHEBARRIER

Edenthorn – 1993: New Single

After hitting us firmly with A Matter Of Opinion single, Edenthorn follow up with another new song entitled 1993.

Geordie quartet Edenthorn reveals a new song 1993 as the latest single from the band’s forthcoming new album which is set for release in 2021. Completed during the second wave of lockdown, 1993 is set for release on 18th December 2020. It might be one of their most punchy, melodic tracks and seemingly light-hearted in feel, although the outro lyric “It was a simple time, with simple things” has taken on a new sense of truth in these current times.

1993 is available to pre-order on Bandcamp right now, although we’ve had a preview on loop for a few days and its become a bit of an earworm.

Edenthorn 1993

This track isn’t a dedication to 1993. It is more about looking back at simpler times…” says vocalist Kyle Tague. “It just happened that 1993 sounded good when sang and a lot of cool stuff happened in that year! Lyrically it’s one of the quickest and easiest songs I’ve ever written.”

It’s a brilliant slab of country-tinged bluesy rock. It could even be ‘rawk’ with some searing soloing oozing from the guitar (must be an axe in this case) of Dylan Gardner. Bassist Faiba Gabrielle revealed to us: “We made it accidentally by messing around… Kyle said “right Dylan play some 90s sounding chords” … he did and then Kyle sang stormy weather 1993…We left it for months and then went back to it when we listened to the practice recording back.” Worked a treat!

The opening confessional “stormy weather, I remember nineteen ninety-three” makes sure we know that Edenthorn can swagger and strut with the best of them. Do you remember where you were? Maybe not having a “Siamese dream” or saddled with no bills or kids or mortgages LOL. A simple time with simple things and one that oozes five minutes of cool vibes and a feel that conjures up those Nooo Joisey cowboys, Jon and Richie cruising the desert on their steel horses.

SUBSCRIBERS TO THE THE EDENTHORN YOUTUBE CHANNEL CAN WATCH THE PREMIERE OF 1993

ON FRIDAY 19th DECEMBER AT 18:30.

1993 follows the previous release A Matter Of Opinion which is still receiving worldwide national airplay and was recently crowned Classic Rock Magazine’s ‘Track Of The Week’. Don’t be surprised to see 1993 afforded the same status.

Pre-Order 1993 HERE  /  Listen To A Matter Of Opinion HERE

Edenthorn has been keeping busy during the lockdown, preparing a number of new releases that will be launched in the coming months. As well as confirming a slot on the bill at Dementia Aware Fest 2021 in Birmingham and a main stage position at Planet Rockstock 2021, the band are also hoping to be premiering a special acoustic performance of 1993 live from their YouTube Channel in December.

METAL PLANET MUSIC SINGLE REVIEW: EDENTHORN – ‘1993.’

Single Review : Edenthorn – ‘1993

Review by Paul Monkhouse for MPM

Say it quietly or shout it from the rooftops, rock is alive and well and Newcastle quartet Edenthorn are proof, if ever it was needed, of that.

Having slowly been building up a solid reputation for themselves since forming some five years ago, the critical and popular acclaim has grown from word of mouth to an ear-splitting siren that announces a major talent on the UK scene.

This latest release could see them taking on their trans-Atlantic cousins in the huge rock song stakes. With the big swaggering style of Pearl Jam at their most metallic and cocksure, the song is packed with glorious melodies and a shimmering sophistication.

Frontman Kyle Michael Tague sings out proud and true whilst rhythm section, brother Mark Tague and Faiba Gardner keep things moving and swinging as Dylan Gardner lays some blinding fretwork into the mix.

The perfect storm of past, present and future, ‘1993’ might talk about the nostalgia of those times it perfectly captures but make no mistake, Edenthorn are most certainly a band for our times and those to come.

A band not just to get excited about right now, they’re a beacon of hope for the future and that’s something worth holding onto.

AT THE BARRIER SINGLE REVIEW ‘A MATTER OF OPINION’

Edenthorn – A Matter Of Opinion: Single Review

We’ve crossed paths with Edenthorn in the past having listened to their second album, Exist, for Powerplay magazine back in 2018. Their brand of melodic/alternative/heavy rock is genuinely refreshing and it’s good to see them ‘back’!They’ve just released a new single in A Matter of Opinion. It’s a song about “sticking your middle finger up at those who try to tear you down,” says singer Kyle Tague. “At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how good you are within your field, someone is always going to have an opinion. But that’s all it is… an opinion.”

We’re promised it’s the first of many new releases in the coming months. 2020 seems to have been reasonably productive, securing slots at various Festivals and using lockdown time to create some new music. A new album is due in 2021, but for now, the ball has begun to roll with A Matter Of Opinion.

If I’m not mistaken, there’s a real swagger about this one. If we’re allowed to say it without offending anyone, it has a real cock-rocking stance about it. The feet are definitley more than shoulder width apart.

Amongst the hefty riffing there’s a new wave/punky energy – I get a bit of Billy Duffy and the Cult with some of those razor-sharp riffs and there’s a forthright and badass attitude that comes across in the lyric. A blunt message to all misguided and self-centered souls.

Well, well, well…here’s another know-it-all
You might as well talk to the wall
Say what you say
I’m not listening anyway
It’s just a matter of opinion, baby
And I no longer care…

‘A MATTER OF OPINION’ IS CLASSIC ROCKS ‘TRACK OF THE WEEK’

Congratulations to Newcastle Upon Tyne’s very own Edenthorn, who slayed all opposition in taking last week’s honours.

Four-piece Edenthorn (two brothers plus a brother and sister) are the brains and brawn behind this taut slice of chest-swelling hard rock – all tight, chugging guitars and gnarly introversion that grows into a big, hooky chorus. If names like Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and Audioslave make you feel good inside, you might just want to give these guys a shot.

Last updated 28th Oct 2020

North East rock quartet Edenthorn have premiered the lyric video for their new single ‘A Matter of Opinion’ exclusively on Planet Rock.

Recorded this year during lockdown and aired during Wyatt’s New Rock Show on Monday (26th October), ‘A Matter of Opinion’ is an instantly infectious, melodic rock gem that comes complete with a pertinent message about standing your ground in the face of detractors.

Singer Kyle Tague explains: “A Matter of Opinion is a song about sticking your middle finger up at those who try to tear you down. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how good you are within your field, someone is always going to have an opinion. But that’s all it is… an opinion.”

Consisting of two sets of siblings – brother and sister Dylan Gardner (guitar) and Faiba Gabrielle (bass/vocals), and brothers Kyle (vocals) and Mark Tague (drums) – Edenthorn are no stranger to Planet Rock events having previously played Winter’s End in February 2020 and Planet Rockstock in 2019.

They’re also confirmed to play the Main Stage at Planet Rockstock in December 2021 alongside the likes of Vandenberg, Monster Truck, Massive Wagons, Phil Campbell & The Bastard Sons, Those Damn Crows, H.E.A.T., Buck & Evans, Diamond Head, Danny Bryant, Collateral, Myke Gray, and Departed.

Edenthorn have also vowed that ‘A Matter of Opinion’ is the ‘first of many new releases in the coming months.’

ROCK REGENERATION LIVE REVIEW FROM WINTERS END

Sandford Holiday Park, Poole, Dorset

Winter's End 2020

Planet Rock’s Winter’s End Festival for the past three years has been the place to see the cream of upcoming and classic Rock bands. The event is put together by Planet Rock’s Jon Norman; who with his team lovingly create the three-day event, which is fast becoming the place to be for the first festival of the season. It’s held at Sandford Holiday Park just outside Poole in Dorset, people can opt to stay in luxurious park homes on-site or if you are like me and live just 10 minutes down the road you can pop home. It’s hard not to be fascinated by the line-up as there are a few names that all will recognize and many you won’t. For the past few years it has been fantastic making new discoveries and one of them is this year’s Friday headliner Those Damn Crows, who played here in 2018 and have gone on to catapult themselves fully into the limelight.

The third act tonight is Edenthorn, a band I have never heard of before let alone seen live. They are a four-piece from the North East of England featuring Dylan Gardner (Guitar), Faiba Gardner (Bass) along with Kyle Tague (Lead Vocals) and stand-in drummer Kyle Hughes. They deliver some most impressive, no-nonsense classic rock that features tunes from the latest album “Exist”. These include “Mine like a Minefield” and “Power” which has a totally infectious riff and a lovely atmospheric sound coming from the guitar. A cheeky reworked cover of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in The Wall” gets the audience’s approval.

‘BEST NEW BAND’ PLANET ROCK AWARDS

The Rocks 2020 winners revealed

Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, The Who and Slash are among the big winners at The Rocks 2020!

The brainchild of Wyatt, The Rocks – Planet Rock’s seventh annual celebration of the greatest British and international rock music – is a direct response to the pop-obsessed award ceremonies that often ignore rock and metal music.

Instead of being decided by anonymous music industry figures, every single category at The Rocks is voted entirely by YOU, the fans!

Since Wyatt first revealed the shortlist on air earlier this month, once again tens of thousands of rock music fans from every corner of the planet have cast their votes.

Def Leppard 2018
Double winners Def Leppard

Thanks to the emphatic success of their Hysteria Tour and their triumphant headline slot at Download Festival 2019Def Leppard are the biggest winners at The Rocks 2020, scooping two prestigious gongs – Best British Band and Best Live Band. Incredibly, 2020 is the first time Def Leppard have triumphed at The Rocks.

Def Leppard frontman and Planet Rock DJ extraordinaire Joe Elliott is in fact a triple Rocks winner after his side-project Down ‘n’ Outz fought off stiff competition to take the Best British Album title with their first record of original material, ‘This Is How We Roll’.

Best International Band – Foo Fighters

Elsewhere at The Rocks 2020, The Who have won Best British Single for ‘Ball and Chain’, Foo Fighters are crowned Best International Band, Bruce Springsteen has claimed Best International Album for ‘Western Stars’, and Guns N’ Roses legend Slash is named Best Worldwide Solo Artist.

Always one of the hardest fought categories, Liverpool rockers Attic Theory have won the Best New Band title.

Best International Album winner Bruce Springsteen

Check out the full winners list for The Rocks 2020 below.

Speaking to Wyatt about Def Leppard’s Best Live Band triumph, our very own Joe Elliott says: “I’m absolutely gobsmacked as they say. It’s very humbling and so exciting. I’ve been doing this for 42 years and you still get a buzz and the hairs on your arms stick up when you get a result like that, it’s incredible.

“For (Def) Leppard to win Best Live Band… we had an amazing audience when we did the Hysteria Tour at the end of 2018 and to come back and do Donington last summer (Download Festival) was obviously the icing on the cake I suppose, so it’s fantastic to get this vote it really is!”

Reflecting upon winning two awards, Joe continued: “The popularity of Def Leppard does ride waves depending on how often we rear our head, but it is a fantastic achievement after all this time. If somebody said when we got together in 1978 that you’re going to be winning these awards in 2020 you’d have laughed them off the planet. It’s such a testimony to our fans; the hard that we put in to maintain a relationship with our fans. We’re just so grateful that these things come along and we can enjoy them.”

Commenting on Down ‘n’ Outz winning Best Album ahead of the likes of The Who and The Darkness, Joe added: “Again, it’s kinda scary considering that this is a band that we put together 10 years ago for a one-off 45-minute performance opening for Mott The Hoople, which went down so well we were kind of pressganged into making that first album, which led us to making the second, which led us to making the third but going ‘you know what, let’s push the boundaries here and write this one’. I guess the songs just resonated with people.

“We’re all in agreement here that Down ‘n’ Outz is a side project, but we do take it seriously enough that we want to do it well. I do believe it’s a great record. Did I think it stood a chance of winning? Absolutely not. Not when you’re up against the likes of… the Wayward Sons album is a wonderful record, The Darkness album, same thing. I’m absolutely beyond belief that we’ve come above The Who and Jeff Lynne’s ELO. It’s fantastic and you just can’t thank the fans enough for it.”

Best British Band
1. Def Leppard – WINNER!
2. The Darkness

LIVE REVIEW 2019 – SUPPORTING ELECTRIC BOYS

Electric Boys @ Newcastle Think Tank?, March 19 2019

Had Lenny Kravitz not sold his soul for commercial gain he might just have been a match for the imperious Conny Bloom. Then again, had the charismatic leader of the Electric Boys enjoyed sustained chart success, rather than critical acclaim and cult status, he could be lounging on a beach in the Bahamas or managing an organic farm in Brazil (Lenny, it seems, does both).

But who is the happier?

Watching the colourful Bloom lead a small but perfectly formed crowd through a career-spanning set, it was impossible to believe that the Swedish frontman would rather be anywhere else than trawling the clubs of Britain in support of his band’s latest crowd-funded album.

And so to local heroes Edenthorn and an early shift inside the Tank. Frontman Kyle Michael Tague captured the imagination from the get-go and the band’s on-trend fusion of 90s alt rock and modern metal continues to evolve. A permanent fixture on the North East scene, discovering a wider audience is the biggest challenge facing the hugely talented homegrown heroes.

EDENTHORN LIVE REVIEW MARCH 2019

ELECTRIC BOYS (Live)
AT THE THINK TANK, NEWCASTLE (UK) 19TH MARCH 2019

Opening for Sweden`s Funk Rockers the Electric Boys, shows just how far Durham`s very own Edenthorn have come in the last year or so. That their star is very much in the ascendance is down to their ability to craft some seriously classy songs and perform them in such an impressive way.  Power and especially Hearts Still Beating from their latest release, Exist, show a genuine grasp of melody and melodrama delivered by the rich tones of Kyle Tague that mark Edenthorn down as ones to watch.

Their last show in Newcastle saw the Electric Boys looking back, celebrating the 25th anniversary of their second album, the wonderfully and very aptly titled Groovus Maximus but this year they had their sights set firmly on the future.

With a decent chunk of the set taken up with songs from their latest album, The Ghost Ward Diaries, it`s clear that the Electric Boys are on something of a creative roll.  Hangover in Hannover is the perfect opener, big, bold and brassy whereas the more reflective Gone, Gone, Gone, a song to a lost friend, shows there`s more to them than Funky swagger.

Of course, the Funk element drills deep into their soul and Groovus Maximus, Electrified, Knee Deep In You and Rags To Riches Rocked hard and grooved deep. Angel In An Armoured Suit featured a glorious, sleazy Aerosmith-esq riff while Mary In The Mystery World brought a cool shot of Psychedelia to the show perfectly matching singer, Conny Bloom`s, flamboyant image.

You Spark My Heart`s soaring chorus was as uplifting as its name suggests but it was left to Rock club floor filler All Lips `n` Hips to seal another sizzling, high voltage night.

PLANET ROCK PREMIERE NEW MUSIC VIDEO “POWER”

Edenthorn premiere ‘Power’ video

Friday, October 26th, 2018 12:00pm

By Scott Colothan  @scottcolothan

Edenthorn have premiered their ‘Power’ music video exclusively on Planet Rock.

As you may have heard on Wyatt’s New Rock Show on Monday night, ‘Power’ is a slick and instantly infectious anthem from the Durham based quartet that comes complete with life-affirming lyrics.

The accompanying Aytball Film directed video sees Kyle Tague, Dylan Gardner, Faiba Gabrielle and Mark Tague belt out ‘Power’ in an atmospherically lit gig venue before it builds to an explosive, highly-charged finale.

Feast your eyes on it here:

‘Power’ is lifted from Edenthorn’s second studio album ‘Exist’, which is available to buy right now.

The 11-track record also boasts the Kerrang! Radio premiered track ‘Mind Like A Minefield’ and the groove-driven single ‘The Unknown’, which Wyatt also played over the summer.

Commenting on ‘Exist’, bassist Faiba says: “Our main aim is to make sure that our listeners never get bored. There is nothing worse than listening to an album where every single song sounds like the song before.

“We don’t like to stick to musical trends, we just like to write good honest music from the heart. We strive to keep the listener entertained, and to take them on a journey with us through our music.”

The ‘Power’ lyrics are as follows:

As I feel I’m getting older
I fear my life is ticking over
Try to hold on to the golden memories
I sit and wonder where the time went
All the months and years that I’ve spent
But I’m better than I’ve ever been…
…nothin’ phases me…

This is…this is my…

…light in the dark
Oh, making me a little brighter, every day
And right from the start
Oh, every minute, every hour…
It gives me power

When I’m staring out the window
I think of everything that I’ve known
And I wonder what the world is coming to
Take a look at where I am now
Kinda’ funny how it works out
Got a gift I never wanna lose…
…it will get me through…

This is…this is my…

…light in the dark
Oh, making me a little brighter, every day
And right from the start
Oh, every minute, every hour…
It gives me power

Bridge

Nothing phases me
I’m where I wanna be
Nothing phases me
I’m where I wanna be
Nothing phases me
I’m where I wanna be
Nothing phases me
I’m where I wanna be

This is my…

…light in the dark
Oh, making me a little brighter, every day
And right from the start
Oh, every minute, every hour…
It gives me power

EDENTHORN ARE PLANET ROCKS ‘ONES TO WATCH’

Planet Rock’s ‘Ones To Watch’: Edenthorn

This week we’re shining the Ones To Watch spotlight on Durham based rock and rollers Edenthorn.

Edenthorn are Kyle Tague (lead vocals), Dylan Gardner (guitar), Faiba Gabrielle (bass/vocals) and Mark Tague (drums).

There are close-knit bands and then there’s Edenthorn. As well as consisting of two sets of siblings (brother and sister Dylan and Faiba, and brothers Kyle and Mark), Kyle and Faiba are also partners. Bolstered by these strong connections, the Durham quartet a highly-polished musical outfit as typified by excellent current groove-driven single ‘The Unknown’, which was played on Wyatt’s New Rock Show this week. Embracing the quiet/loud dynamic, Kyle’s Weiland-esque drawl is complemented perfectly by harmonious backing vocals from Faiba as they deliver a song packed with infectious riffs and imbued with an overtly positive message.

“The song is basically a realisation that through all the good and bad that has happened in our lives, we’re grateful we still have one,” explains Kyle. “We still have a heart beating in our bodies, we still get to live and breathe and we still exist in this world. It’s about the attitude that, no matter what happens, nothing is more important than that fact, that we’re still alive and still have a lot to live for.”

Just like its Kerrang! Radio premiered predecessor ‘Mind Like A Minefield’, ‘The Unknown’ is a perfect introduction to Edenthorn’s second studio album ‘Exist’, which was unleashed to the world in April. Throughout its 11 tracks, the eclectic album is a beguiling listen and showcases every side of Edenthorn’s art.

Faiba explains that it’s very much in keeping with the band’s ethos: “Our main aim is to make sure that our listeners never get bored. There is nothing worse than listening to an album where every single song sounds like the song before. We don’t like to stick to musical trends, we just like to write good honest music from the heart. We strive to keep the listener entertained, and to take them on a journey with us through our music.”

EDENTHORN RETURN WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM, ‘EXIST’

EDENTHORN RETURN WITH THEIR NEW ALBUM, ‘EXIST’

Edenthorn

Some people have claimed that rock is dead. Then bands like Edenthorn come along and prove that this is not the case.

This four-piece showed the world what they were all about with their EP Whats On Your Mind? They did not make their fans wait long for new music, as they released their debut album the following year. The Mazeshows how much they had grown over the year with their strongest collection of songs. This included the stunning charity single “After The Storm,” which was used to help raise mental health and suicide awareness.

2018 sees the band return with their new album Exist. Kyle Tague, Dylan Gardner, Faiba Gardner, and Mark Tague wanted to create something that symbolises Edenthorn. They have said that, “Our main aim is to make sure that our listeners never get bored. We don’t like to stick to musical trends, we just like to write good honest music from the heart.”

Exist is a no-nonsense album that rocks. It an era when most bands of this genre tend to infuse electronic or bluesy elements, it is great to hear this back to basics sound. They had their goal when creating this release and they have executed this plan perfectly. This intent is clear with the opening track “Out of the Dark” that brings killer riffs and thunderous beats to grab your attention.

With influences that include Foo Fighters, Biffy Clyro, and Stone Temple Pilots, you can understand why they love rocking out. Another example of this is “Heart’s Still Beating,” which is one of the highlights from the album. This has been getting a lot of attention because of its huge anthemic sound and epic hooks.

Rock is Dead? Edenthorn show that it is alive and kicking

As well as their big sound, this is a band that also has a reputation for their infectious choruses. After a few listens you find yourself singing along. This is also a credit to how Kyle Tague uses his voice for maximum effect. He is a front man who knows how important it is to get the listeners and crowds engaged. As much as he knows how to rock out, his best performance is during the track “Garden of Heaven.” A slightly softer tone that is filled with emotion that packs a punch at times. The backing vocals from Gardner also help to make this song something special.

Exist is full of outstanding songs with some that can become overshadowed by the likes of “Mind like a Minefield.” This shows Edenthorn at full throttle and it is relentless from start to finish. All the boxes you want a rock track to tick are filled with this one. A personal highlight, “Speak to Me” shows off a different side to the band and one that should be explored more in the future. It gives the opportunity for these musicians to spread their wings with something that is mostly instrumental, except for some minimal use of vocals from Kyle Tague and Gardner. A flawless moment that proves less can give you more.

Exist shows that Edenthorn are going from strength to strength. They are a name that will be mentioned a lot more after this release and deservingly so. If you love rock, then you NEED this album.

North East four-piece Edenthorn drop their sophomore LP Exist April 20th and it is well worth waiting for. A gargantuan LP of musical quality, it is a flawless example of fine UK talent showcasing the top-flight bands within the local industry right now. The vocal talents of front man Kyle Michael Tague are showcased beautifully against the backdrop of sublime song writing. Each track just gets stronger and stronger as the LP ebbs and flows across eleven cracking songs.

Reminiscent of the likes of huge American bands like Daughtry or local lads like Mallory Knox and beyond, the quality is there in abundance for all to see and there is no doubt Exist will propel this quartet to new heights.

SOUND OF PEN GIVE ‘EXIST’ 8.4/10

EDENTHORN: EXIST
8.4 Overall Score
LYRICS 8
VOCALS 8
MUSICIANSHIP 9
EMOTION 9
CONSISTENCY 8

Edenthorn, Exist
Self-release

Why aren’t more people listening to Edenthorn? That was my first reaction when I started listening to the Durham outfit’s new album, Exist. I couldn’t comprehend why more people weren’t listening to this amazing band, this incredible band. So I’m here to get the word out, because if ever there was a reason to listen to this alt-rock quartet, it’s their new album…

It opens with Out Of The Dark, a song that’s easy to connect to, with its smooth vocals from lead singer Kyle Tague and Dylan Gardner’s invigorating guitars in support. It’s catchy, and bodes well for the rest of this record.

Hearts Still Beating and Power are more dramatic, and clean-cut, getting to the core of what Edenthorn are about. Mind like a Minefield and Live in the Now have more of a punk tone, and carry the characteristics of true bangers: they’re heavy, toe-tapping and quick. It’s not just the music that’s weighty either; it’s the emotion too. But whilst the tone at times may be tender and thoughtful, the music remains gripping and invincible.

Where Did You Go is a lighter and more hopeful tune, and Speak To Me is brings the record to a smooth and calm conclusion. If you haven’t listened to Edenthorn yet, then there’s something missing from your playlists.

Exist is out Friday 20th April.

EXIST ALBUM REVIEW: NARC MAGAZINE

Self-Release

Released: 20.04.18

EXIST is the dazzling second album from Edenthorn, a young Durham band unashamed to rock; an album that blasts out of the box with a big riffing opener Out Of The Dark. Soaraway melodic choruses and epic guitar lines feature throughout, and recent single Heart’s Still Beating reaches for the stars and rocks riotously. Power is well named, but even on this energy-enriched track the four-piece know how to wind down the gears and be more reflective before putting the pedal to the metal.

There is plenty of breadth and room for variety without sacrificing the unity of the album. Prepare for a storming, stomping big finish with Speak To Me, a slow burner which sparks into a firestorm. No apologies. No compromise.

EDENTHORN PLAY SOLD OUT HOMETOWN SHOW

EDENTHORN (Live) At The Cluny 2, Newcastle (UK) 24th March 2018

There`s always something of a buzz around an album launch party.  Whether it`s the sense of excitement that this album could be “the one” or just that feeling of relief that all of the hard work in creating the music is finally over and now people can get to hear the finished product.  Certainly, the Cluny was fizzing with anticipation before Durham based Edenthorn unveiled their second album to a collective family, friends and fans.

With their new record, Exist, out in a couple of weeks, lucky fans at the show could get their hands on the album early and those who did would certainly not have been disappointed.

2015`s debut The Maze showed a lot of promise with the likes of Hideout and Cortisol showing a real maturity in the song writing department but over the ensuing three years the band have taking huge strides forward and developed into a band where everything is clicking into place at exactly the right moment.

Out Of The Dark, the Foo Fighters tinged Mind Like A Minefield and The Noise In My Head certainly packed a punch but where Edenthorn really scored was on the huge hooks and towering melodies on the likes of Power where vocalist Kyle Tague`s warm but imposing voice soared to the stars.

In Hearts Still Beating, Edenthorn have a bona fide classic in their hands of Stadium Rock proportions with Dylan Gardner`s chiming guitar and Tague`s impressive vocals combining to create something truly special.  One listen to its delirious chorus is all it will take to have you hooked in an instant.

Of course, the covers thrown in at the end including Nirvana`s Smells Like Teen Spirit and Pink Floyd`s Another Brick In The Wall were a bit of fun, but they were actually delivered in convincing style and the crowd clearly loved it.

The show was not about covers though, it was all about Edenthorn and Exist, their new album and an hour and a half later there was no doubting that Edenthorn may well be putting Durham onto the musical map and this may turn out to be the “I was there” moment for those in the crowd.
